Design Office
As we all know, it's one thing to come up with a great idea and another to implement a working solution. That's why the team at Monsal are all involved in the actual implementation of projects - from concept and design to installation, commissioning and post operational support.
The process of turning an engineering design into For Construction drawings is a critical step in this implementation - and one which Monsal excel at. Monsal use both 3D CAD and 2D CAD throughout its engineering team, and has a Design Office which sits at the heart of this team.
Within the Design Office, Monsal operates an industry recognised 3D parametric design package. This facility offers increased design visibility at the front end with increased levels of flexibility and outputs in various formats covering the lifecycle of a project. This includes:
- Rapid prototyping
- Increased design visibility
- Integrated design approach
- Outputs in a variety of formats
- Outputs utilised across the lifecyle of the project
How does this benefit our clients?
The 3D package produces images that can be rendered to look like pictures, or they can be transparent. This means - What you see is what you get, which is great for a number of reasons:
- The drawings can be presented with Planning and Permitting Applications, so planners can see what the finished plant will look like. The model can be turned to view it from any angles of concern, such as nearby households.
- The drawings can also be used for PR by the client, e.g. to gain public acceptance of a scheme.
- The model can be walked through, and viewed from any angle, to identify safety considerations during installation and maintenance. This is also useful for installation size, height constraints and lifting reviews.
- The model can be used for conducting Hazops, with all parties viewing the live model on a laptop. This leads to constructive enjoyable Hazop meetings, with more easily agreed solutions.
- Monsal will incorporate client preferred technology into its systems. The 3D model will accurately show the integration requirements, termination points, fixing points, and access requirements.
- And finally, the model can be used at the pre-construction stage when the client briefs his/ her team - whether this is the project team or management. It can also be very effectively used during operator and manager training, and again makes this a much more interactive and enjoyable experience for the operators and managers.
